A senior police officer wanted for estafa was arrested in his home in Quezon City Thursday afternoon.
Quezon City Police District director Chief Superintendent Joselito Esquivel, Jr. identified the cop as SPO1 Honorio Negrito, 52, a resident of West Crame, Quezon City.
Esquivel said Negrito was nabbed inside his house on Road 2 in West Crame around 4 p.m. Thursday by virtue of a warrant of arrest for 10 counts of estafa issued by Judge Edith Mina-Aguba of QC Regional Trial Court Branch 100.
A report said that Negrito started encouraging his fellow policemen in joining an investment program in 2005 which turned out to be a scam.
Investigation showed that Negrito promised his victims a monthly interest of P6,000 for every P100,000 they would invest.
However, the suspect failed to pay the interest to the investors, prompting them to file complaints against him.
Negrito, on the other hand, gave different explanations to the victims on where did the money went.
The court has set a bail of P400,000 for the suspect’s temporary liberty.
Negrito was assigned to QCPD Cubao Police Station (PS-7) prior to his arrest.
He is now detained at the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit at the QCPD headquarters in Camp Karingal.
