Six rising players from the Unified Tennis Philippines brace for a grueling campaign in Indonesia as they compete in the International Tennis Federation-AGS Junior Tennis Championships, which got under way yesterday in Jakarta.
Manuel Balce III, Michael Eala, Bea Acena, Melanie Faye Dizon, Alex Eala and Macie Carlos who gained ranking points from solid finishes in the UTP-sanctioned tournaments clinched the slots to play in select ITF events.
The six were placed among the top four in their respective age divisions in various UTP tournaments backed by Cebuana Lhuillier, Wilson, Toby’s, Dunlop, Slazenger, B-Meg and the Palawan Pawnshop-Palawan Express Pera Padala.
“These young players have proved their skills and talent on the court and we are confident that they will bring honor to the country,” said UTP president Jean Henri Lhuillier. “We will support them in their quest for excellence.”
The formation of a national junior pool and team is part of UTP’s efforts to develop fresh talents through the nationwide, country-wide PPS-PEPP and Cebuana age-group circuits and give them the chance to compete against some of the leading players in the region in top tournaments sanctioned by the ITF and the Asian Tennis Federation.
