DAVAO CITY – A body was discovered at the third floor of the ill-fated NCCC Mall Fire, 28 weeks or almost 200 days after the fire killed 38 employees late last year.
However, it was not clear yet whether this was another body, or whether the body parts belonged to one of the already identified casualties.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said that fire and police officers proceeded to the scene of the fire after contractors working on the demolition of the structure found bones at the third floor of the site.
In an interview, Chief Inspector Virna Silagan, Acting City District Fire Marshal, told Manila Bulletin that the body has been turned over to the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) to determine the identity of the decomposed victim.
Silagan said contractors were only able to confirm that the found bones were indeed human a day after they found a portion of bones Tuesday night.
Fire officers then proceeded to the scene Wednesday night to assist in the recovery of the skeletal remains.
By Thursday morning, the bones would be turned over to the police SOCO team.
NCCC management confirmed the incident Thursday morning. (Yas Ocampo)
