A former barangay captain in Ilocos Sur, who was reportedly listed as a high-value target in President Duterte’s drug watchlist, was arrested in Caloocan City Tuesday night.
After four years of hiding, Renato “Atong” Tengsico, 72, was arrested inside an apartment in Barangay 171 in Bagumbong.
Tengsico was also considered as the most wanted person in his province, Caloocan police chief Senior Supt. Restituto Arcangel said.
He was the alleged leader of “Tengsico-Cabreros Drug Group,” said to be behind the source of illegal drug trade in the second district of Ilocos Sur.
Armed with a warrant of arrest issued by Ilocos Sur Regional Trial Court Branch 76 Judge Sixto Diompoc, joint operatives of intelligence and drug enforcement units of the Caloocan and Ilocos Sur arrested Tengsico around 9:30 p.m.
Tengsico, who went on hiding after posting bail in 2014, was sentenced to life for his illegal drugs charges a year later.
Case investigator PO3 John Cezar Mendoza said Tengsico was a former barangay captain in Poblacion, Ilocos Sur.
During his arrest, police said they also seized five grams of shabu with an estimated street value of R20,000. (Kate Louise B. Javier)
