The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said yesterday that 40,256 families or 162,022 persons from 195 barangays in Regions 3, 4-A, 4-B, 6, and the National Capital Region were affected by the southwest monsoon or “habagat” and tropical storm “Inday.”
Undersecretary Ricardo B. Jalad, executive director of the NDRRMC and administrator of the Office of Civil Defense, said 33,977 families or 145,527 persons are being served inside served inside and outside evacuation centers.
Jalad said that the NDRRMC has recorded 18 flooding, strong winds, soil erosion, and coastal erosion in Regions 3, 4-A, 4-B, 6, and Cordillera Autonomous Region.
Twelve coastal barangays in Naic, Cavite are under state of calamity due to flooding. These are Labac, Mabulo, Bancaan, Bagong Karsada, Bucana Malaki,Sapa, Bucahan Sasahan, Munting Mapino, Timalan Balsahan, Timalan Concepcion, Balsahan, and Latoria.
Jalad said due to rough seas, 96 passengers, six vessels, and six motor bancas were still stranded in the ports of Palawan, Aklan, Camarines Sur, and Batangas. (Francis T. Wakefield)
