International Master John Marvin Miciano drew his seventh-round assignment on Thursday night to stay in the Top 10 of the XX Obert Internacional Sant Marti 2018 in Barcelona, Spain.
The 17-year-old Miciano split the point with Indian’s Saha Neelash in 28 moves of a Pirc Defense to slightly improve to 5 points on four wins, two draws, and one loss.
The triumph earned him a share of seventh place with 11 others including Neelash.
Grandmaster Jayson Gonzales, meanwhile, succumbed to Peruvian GM Jose Eduardo Martinez Alcantara for 4.5 points to slip at shared 19th place, while Woman Grandmaster Janelle Frayna halved the point with India’s Saloni Sapale for 4 points for a share of 29th spot.
GM Gadir Guseinov of Azerbaijan claimed the solo lead with 6 points after besting FIDE Master Guha Mitrabha on India. (Kristel Satumbaga)
