A policeman with a clean record was gunned down by a motorcycle-riding armed man in Sampaloc, Manila Tuesday afternoon.
Senior Supt. Rolando Anduyan, Manila Police District (MPD) director, said Police Officer 2 Joel Padre Juan had never been involved in illegal activities.
“I was informed that he was performing his work well. He has a very clean record,” he said yesterday.
“As of now, we will not disclose what we discovered as it might affect the ongoing probe. We want the ones behind this to be apprehended,” Anduyan added.
He said MPD has witnesses that can help quickly solve the case.
Juan, assigned to the MPD Station 4’s Anti- Crime Unit, was travelling onboard his motorcycle along G. Tuazon St. corner Midoro St. in Sampaloc when he was attacked from behind by the gunman who was wearing a black helmet, investigation disclosed.
It was learned that he was shot twice in the head and body, killing him on site.
Seen on a closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, the gunman even checked if Juan was still alive before fleeing.
The motorcycle-riding gunman was seen escaping towards Galas, Quezon City.
Supt. Carlo Manuel, MPD Public Informantion Office head, said that the victim was carrying burgers and fries that were meant for his children.
“The fries and burgers scattered on the crime scene. Those were for his children,” he said.
Manuel was told by the family that Juan has no known enemy, saying the killing was believed to be work-related.
