Another holdup suspect was killed in a shootout with police officers arresting him shortly after he allegedly stole a motorcycle in Quezon City, past midnight Wednesday.
Investigators of the Quezon City Police District Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit said the still unidentified slain suspect was in his early 30s, with a flower tattoo on his right arm, wearing black shirt and dirty white cargo short pants.
Members of QCPD Novaliches Police Station (PS-4) said that prior to the shootout, they received a report about a holdup incident involving three men.
According to victim Allyson Pontillas, 27, he was going home around 8:15 p.m. in Santiago Subdivision, Barangay Sta. Monica, Novaliches when three men suddenly appeared and, at gunpoint, took from him his motorbike.
Pontillas reported the incident to nearby PS-4 personnel who immediately conducted a checkpoint on SB Road in Barangay Nagkaisang Nayon.
Superintendent Rossel Cejas, chief of Quezon City Police Station 4, said that at past 12 a.m., while manning the checkpoint, one of his policemen saw three men onboard two approaching motorcycles.
However, instead of passing through the checkpoint, the men suddenly turned back going to Katipunan Avenue.
Authorities chased the suspects who fired shots at them, resulting in a brief running gun battle.
Policemen cornered one of the three men but instead of surrendering, he fired shots at arresting officers who retaliated and killed him on the spot. The suspect’s other cohorts escaped. (Alexander San Juan)
