The famous Perseids meteor shower will light up the night sky in the country on Aug. 12 and 13. If weather permits, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration said it will be observed during its peak in the late evening and early morning hours from Aug. 12 to 13. At least 50 or more meteors per hour will be observed during its peak time. The Perseids radiate from the constellation Perseus in the eastern horizon and is associated with the debris of comet Swift-Tuttle which last passed by Earth in 1992. PAGASA said meteors are easiest to observe if there are no moonlight and light pollution and clear sky conditions exists. It said August is one of the most popular time of the year to observe meteor showers. (Ellalyn V. Ruiz)
