University of Perpetual Help hopes to get back on the winning track when it battles San Sebastian College today in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament at the Perpetual Help gym in Las Piñas City.
Match is at 4 p.m. with the Altas out to erase the stigma of a 91-77 defeat to the Lyceum Pirates last Friday that pulled them down in the middle standings at 2-2.
While they certainly get additional boost from the crowd, coach Frankie Lim wants his players to be more aggressive in both ends.
Out to lead the Altas are Prince Eze, rookie transferee Edgar Charcos, Jelo Razon and Kim Aurin.
Eze vowed to play much better against the Stags, who are coming off a 94-70 drubbing of the Mapua Cardinals.
The 6-foot-7 Eze produced a double-double of 20 points and 18 rebounds the last time.
Expected to lead the Stags is Alvin Capobres – the same player who sparked the team’s decisive third quarter run for a 3-4 record.
Stags coach Egay Macaraya, however, is wary of the small timeframe to prepare against their rivals.
“It’s tough to have only one day of rest but we’ll just try to relax and try to keep the same energy that we gave in our last game,” said Macaraya.
Capobres tallied a career-high 21 points, while Allyn Bulanadi, Alex Desoyo and JM Calma are set to provide ample reinforcements.
Meanwhile, the Perpetual Help Junior Altas aim for a share of second when they clash with the San Sebastian Junior Stags in the 2 p.m. opener.
The Junior Altas sport a 3-1 mark while the Junior Stags are toting a 3-4 mark.
