Moderate to heavy monsoon rains will persist across most parts of Northern Luzon and some areas in western Luzon due to the surge of the southwest monsoon or “habagat” today.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration said tropical depression “Luis” has weakened into a low-pressure area as it moved towards southern China.
Luis was estimated at 560 kilometers northwest of Basco, Batanes or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
The LPA spotted northeast of Basco, as well as Luis, are now embedded in the monsoon trough across southern China and Taiwan.
PAGASA said the habagat will continue to bring scattered moderate to heavy rains in Zambales, Bataan, La Union, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Abra, Apayao, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga, and Mountain Province.
The public, especially those living near river channels, low-lying areas, and mountainous areas, should still take precaution against possible flooding and landslides due to saturated soil after several days of continuous rains.
PAGASA said the rest of Central Luzon and Cagayan Valley will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to habagat. (Ellalyn V. Ruiz)
