San Beda University closed out its first round campaign with a flourish, clobbering Jose Rizal University, 77-40, in the NCAA basketball tournament yesterday at The Arena in San Juan City.
There was no need for another 50-point production from top gunner Robert Bolick this time as the Lions came through with a well-balanced attack to nail their 8th win in 9 games.
The Red Lions were so overpowering they led as many as 40 points, 75-35, on three straight triple from AC Soberano in the final three minutes.
The Bombers skidded to 2-7, tying with Emilio Aguinaldo College and Mapua.
Calvin Optana led San Beda with 16 points while Soberano added 11 points.
None from JRU scored in double figures with Karl Bordon managing only nine points.
In the first game, Arellano University bucked a slow start to beat University of Perpetual Help, 76-72.
The Chiefs recovered from a 10-point halftime deficit, 38-28, to take the initiative and never looked back.
