San Beda University survived Jose Rizal University’s stubborn stand to eke out a 65-63 thriller in the NCAA juniors basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.
The Red Cubs notched their sixth win against three losses behind the double-double efforts of Jade Talampas, who scored 15 points and collared 12 rebounds.
San Beda battled JRU through eight deadlocks and 15 lead changes before finally prevailing.
JRU finished the first round with a 4-5 record.
John Delos Santos and Roland Bucoy finished with 14 and 11 points in a losing cause for JRU, which joined University of Perpetual Help at joint fourth.
In other game, the Perpetual Help Junior Altas dismantled the Arellano Braves, 88-71.
Emman Galman put on another brilliant all-around game with 25 points and 13 rebounds for Perpetual.
The Junior Altas highlighted their win by draining 10 triples, including four from Yukihiro Kawamura.
