The Women’s National Collegiate Athletic Association (WNCAA) continues to highlight the new cliché about “women in power” when the 49th season unfolds on Saturday at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum in Vito Cruz, Manila.
With this season’s theme “Play Bold With a Heart of Gold”, the league seeks inspiration from the Filipina gold medalists in the ongoing Asian Games in its goal to produce more female athletes standing out in international-level tournaments.
The 16 teams are Angelicum College, Assumption College San Lorenzo, Chiang Kai Shek, La Salle Zobel, La Salle Antipolo, Miriam College, Philippine Women’s University, Saint Pedro Poveda College, San Beda Alabang, St. Scholastica’s College, St. Stephen’s High School, University of Asia & the Pacific, University of Makati, St. Jude Catholic School, St. Paul College of Pasig and CEU.
“We are motivated by our recent Asian Games gold winners to play our best with a lot of boldness and courage,” said WNCAA President Juanita Alamillo of Centro Escolar University, referring to weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz and golfers Yuka Saso, Bianca Pagdanganan and Lois Kaye Go.
