Bryan Bagunas and Madzlan Gampong fired 16 points apiece for the Bulldogs, who overcame the Tigers’ sharp serves to draw the first blood in their best-of-three finals affair.
Libero Ricky Marcos and Gampong took charge of NU’s floor defense and combined for 18 digs while Bagunas and Marcos had 27 excellent receptions.
The Bulldogs, also the reigning UAAP champions, gun for their first league title on Wednesday at the same venue.
NU contained UST’s offensive assault that was headed by Manuel Medina and Josh Umandal, who finished with 17 and 16 points in a losing effort.
