Rains may persist over some parts of Northern Luzon today due to a low-pressure area near Batanes.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration estimated the location of the LPA at 145 kilometers northeast of Basco, Batanes before noon yesterday.
The weather disturbance will bring moderate to occasional heavy rains over Batanes and Babuyan Islands while scattered light to moderate rains and thunderstorms are expected over northern Cagayan, Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, and Pangasinan today.
PAGASA weather specialist Meno Mendoza advised residents in these areas, especially those living near river channels and low-lying and mountainous areas to take appropriate action against possible flooding and landslides.
The State weather bureau is not discounting the possibility that the LPA may still develop into a tropical depression. It will be named “Neneng” once it becomes a tropical cyclone while inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.
