A FORMER barangay chairman was gunned down by five unidentified armed men in front of his four kids inside their home in Pandacan, Manila, early yesterday morning.
Police identified the victim as Buanito Buan, 57, widower, former chairman of Barangay 849 Zone 93, District 6, and resident of Ilang Ilang Street in Pandacan. He died on the spot from bullet wounds in the head and body.
It was learned that Buan ran for another term as barangay chairman but lost his bid in the May 2018 polls.
PO3 Marlo San Pedro, case officer of Manila Police District (MPD) homicide section, said that Buan and his four kids were sleeping inside the bedroom when four of the suspects barged into their house at 2:15 a.m. on Ilang Ilang Street in Pandacan.
According to their neighbors, four suspects wearing helmets parked their motorcycle in front of the house and entered Buan’s residence.
A closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage near the area also showed that the fifth suspect stood as a lookout outside the house.
San Pedro also said that one of Buan’s kids told him that his father was involved in illegal drug activities.
Recovered from the crime scene were three fired cartridges from a .45-caliber gun.
Follow-up investigation is ongoing to identify the suspects and determine the motive behind the killing, police added.
