The country’s hosting of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games is right on track, the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) said yesterday.
PSC chairman William ‘Butch’ Ramirez said organizing committee chief and Foreign Affairs secretary Alan Peter Cayetano, the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) and the PSC have been meeting regularly to ensure that the staging of the Nov. 30-Dec. 10 biennial sportsfest proceeds without a hitch.
“As far as the PSC is concerned, everything is proceeding smoothly,” said Ramirez, whose agency is tasked to rehabilitate or upgrade venues within the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex and the Philsports in Pasig.
Ramirez said the RMSC baseball field and track oval as well as the Ninoy Aquino Stadium are due for renovations.
Although the newly-built New Clark Green City is the major hub, facilities in Metro Manila have been targeted as venues for some major sports, including basketball and boxing.
The composition of the sports and events that will be played will be known next month with all 11 member countries attending a key meeting in Manila.
The Philippines is out to take the overall crown for the first time in 13 years.
