Exactly a week after being held to a draw, Jerwin Ancajas will formally issue a challenge to fellow world super-flyweight champion Srisaket Sor Rungvisai when he travels to Bangkok this weekend.
Sor Rungvisai is set to defend the World Boxing Council against Mexican Iran Diaz at the Impact Arena on Saturday night and Ancajas, the International Boxing Federation titlist, will be at ringside.
Last Sept. 28, Ancajas barely kept his IBF 115-kb throne after a hard-fought 12-round split draw with Alejandro Santiago, also from Mexico, at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California.
The trip to Bangkok is being arranged by Ancajas’ US matchmaker Sean Gibbons, who will meet up with Ancajas and lead trainer Joven Jimenez tomorrow as he will be flying in from the US.
Ancajas, who was making the sixth defense, was far from impressive against the handpicked Santiago, something that could convince Sor
Rungvisai that the Filipino will be easy pickings for him.
