DETAINED former Sen. Ramon “Bong” B. Revilla Jr. will seek a Senate seat in 2019 and will be included in the joint Lakas-CMD senatorial slate.
Party president and former Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez said Revilla finally agreed to run for senator although he is expected to campaign from his detention cell if the call for his release is rejected by the courts.
“I am pleased and honored to officially announce the candidacy for the Senate of Sen. Bong Revilla Jr., our party chairman,” said Romualdez.
Lakas-CMD is not expected to field a complete slate but its current rebuilding moves could revive its previous status as the country’s most dominant political party.
“We look forward very well to local and national races. Lakas-CMD has produced two excellent Presidents. President Fidel V. Ramos and
President Gloria M. Arroyo and maybe someday, Lakas will produce another President,” Romualdez said.
Revilla is currently detained at the PNP Custodial Center in Camp Crame, Quezon City on a non-bailable charge of plunder.
“This decision was reached after a series of consultations with his family, close friends, constituents, and political leaders,” he said.
