EXPECT cool weather in the coming days as the southwest monsoon or the “habagat” season has officially ended, marking the nearing start of the northeast monsoon or “amihan,” the State weather bureau said.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration announced the termination of habagat yesterday after it observed a significant weakening of the southwest monsoon winds in the last few days.
With this development, PAGASA said that the southwest monsoon season, the weather system associated with the rainy season, is officially over.
PAGASA Administrator Vicente Malano said that the Philippine climate is now in transition.
“The strengthening of the high pressure systems over the Asian continent suggests the gradual transition of the season,” Malano said.
The gradual onset of the northeast monsoon or amihan season is expected in the coming days as the wind reverses from the southwest to northeast. (Alexandria San Juan)
