KIDAPAWAN CITY – A truck driver was burned alive when the vehicle he was driving plunged into a cliff while maneuvering a dangerous curve along the highway in President Roxas, North Cotabato, around 12:20 a.m., Friday, a police officer said.
Chief Inspector Rolly Oranza of the President Roxas PNP identified the victim as Jason Anlog, 30, of New Corella, Tagum City.
Truck helpers Jay Delfin, 21, and Haydee Camunol, both workers of the Sumifru Fruits Corporation, sustained severe injuries and were rushed to a hospital in Antipas, North Cotabato, reports said.
Oranza hinted the slain driver was not familiar with the terrain when he traveled on Friday to Antipas, main office of the Sumifru, using the highway in President Roxas.
Oranza said a portion of the highway along Barangay Greenhills is considered a dangerous curve and a signage has been placed in the area to warn drivers while they traverse the route.
“The driver, Anlog, for sure, was not accustomed to the highway, plus, he was traveling at night,” said Oranza.
The police officer added that when the truck fell on a 10-foot cliff, the driver was stuck on his seat. His truck helpers tried to extract him but failed.
“Then they smelled fuel all over and immediately there was fire. The helpers ran for safety, leaving behind the driver who was burned alive,” he said.
