As the holiday season nears, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is seeking to alter the opening hours of malls to lessen the anticipated monstrous traffic in the metropolis.
MMDA officials are set to meet mall operators on Wednesday to discuss the matter.
“We invited shopping mall operators for a meeting on Wednesday…We would ask them to start operating at 11 a.m., an hour late from the 10 a.m. regular opening schedule,” Jose Arturo Garcia, MMDA general manager, said in a press briefing Friday.
He explained that such measure will help minimize traffic, particularly along EDSA, during the holidays.
The MMDA general manager, meanwhile, announced that several infrastructure projects across Metro Manila have been completed while others are nearing completion.
One of these projects is the Concordia Bridge along President Quirino Avenue in Manila.
“The southbound lane of the Concordia Bridge was opened on October 4.”
Also, he said that the 10-kilometer long Laguna Lake Highway from Bicutan to Taguig is expected to be completed before the year ends. It is an alternative route of C5 and EDSA from south to eastern part of the Metro Manila.
