A backpack containing R200,000 worth of suspected dried marijuana leaves was found inside a garbage can in Quezon City before midnight Saturday.
Supt. Giovanni Hycenth Caliao, commander of Cubao Police Station (PS-7), said in a text message that the trash was possibly used as a pick-up point for the bag with marijuana leaves or it was left intentionally by the suspect out of fear of getting caught.
Caliao said that the location where the suspected marijuana was left is near the Araneta bus station where policemen from PS-7 are posted.
Police said security guard Jessie Atis was conducting a patrol at around 11 p.m. at Roxas Times Square, Araneta-Cubao in Quezon when he noticed an abandoned violet bag inside an open trash can.
Atis checked the backpack and discovered inside about two kilograms of suspected marijuana leaves.
Atis immediately reported his discovery to security officer Randy Aluria who immediately notified Cubao Police Station (PS-7) for the proper turnover.
