Games Today (Olivarez College gym)
12 noon – Diliman vs TIP
2 p.m. – SJCB vs Olivarez
Olivarez College looks set to coast smoothly to its fifth straight win when it battles winless St. Joseph College of Bulacan today in the Universities and Colleges Basketball League Season 3 yesterday at the Olivarez College gym in Paranaque City.
Up against the smallest squad in the seven-team tournament, the Olivarez Sea Lions are certainly going for the kill early when they clash at 2 p.m.
A victory would push the Sea Lions onto the threshold of completing a six-game sweep of the first round elims – a feat that could further energize them going into the second round.
Despite their decisive advantage in height, heft and experience, Olivarez coach Myk Saguiguit is not taking the Bulacan dribblers lightly, saying: “We have to respect whoever is our opponent,”
While the Sea Lions are coming off a 93-74 beating of the Technological Institute of the Philippines Engineers, the Bulacan dribblers are still smarting from a crushing 74-point loss (120-46) to the Centro Escolar University last Monday.
St. Joseph (0-4) should improve its outside shooting to avoid suffering such lopsided loss.
Out to lead the Sea Lions are Lawrence Castro, Chris Lalata, and 6-foot-7 Cameroonian Elie Yani.
Clashing in the 12 noon match are Diliman College and TIP in what many expected to go down the wire this time.
Led by Joseph Brutas, John Enriquez and Johniel Bauson, the Diliman Blue Dragons improved to 3-1 after mauling Lyceum-Batangas Pirates, 103-68.
