Para-swimmer Ernie Gawilan and Para 10-Pin bowler Kim Ian Chi bagged gold medals in their respective events Monday at the 2018 Asian Para Games currently being held in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Gawilan, a native of Davao City, started out by initially joining the S7-50m freestyle event where he won the silver medal. The 27-year-old clocked 32.16 seconds, finishing behind Wei Soong Toh of China who finished with 29.85 seconds. Suyash Nara Jadjar of India settled for the bronze with a time of 32.56 seconds.
Moments later, Gawilan would return to compete in the 200 m individual relay. He ended up with the fastest time of 2:53.53 minutes to win the gold, improving his previous bronze medal finish.
Finishing second was Liang-Da Chan of Taiwan 2:55.90 while Suyash Nara Jadjaro of India took third place with a time of 2:56.51.
In the Mixed Singles TP B10 bowling event, Para 10-Pin bowler Kim Ian Chi bagged the gold after rolling a six-game series of 1,388 at the Jaya Ancol Bowling Centre.
Chi averaged 231.30, including a high game of 267 in the second set. He edged eventual silver medalist Hong Wonju who totaled 1,379.
Also, Achelle Guion from Sipalay, Negros Occidental gave the Philippines a silver medal, lifting a total of 67kg in the powerlifting event held in Balai Sudirman Hall.
Another swimmer, Gary Bejino, contributed a bronze medal as well after coming up with a personal best of 1:28:54 minutes in the (S6) B-100m backstroke. Bucay Arthus also contributed a bronze medal, finishing third in the Men’s Time Trial (C5) – Men.
As of this writing, the Philippines has a total haul of 2 gold, 2 silver, and 2 bronze medals. (with report from PSC-POC Media Group)
