Local triathlon braces for a bigger, more explosive 2019 season with IRONMAN 70.3 and 5150 events lined up in various championship courses in Davao, Cebu and Subic with all expected to draw the best endurance triathletes in the world.
Thousands have in fact responded to the organizing Sunrise Events, Inc.’s simultaneous online and on-site list-up launch to all IRONMAN 70.3 and 5150 events last Oct. 1, underscoring the popularity of the ever-growing swim-bike-run races that have become the main staple among the multi-sport racers, enthusiasts and wannabes.
“On the morning of registration, the Regent Aguila IRONMAN 70.3 Philippines in Cebu already had more than a thousand participants registered while the Alveo Ironman 70.3 Davao drew 1,500 entries,” said SEI general manager Princess Galura.
The Regent Aguila listup was held at Maayo Hotel’s grand ballroom where freebies, including in-training shirt, visor/cap, towel and Aguila drinks were handed out and three Rudy Project helmets were raffled off.
The SEDA Abreeza Hotel, on the other hand, hosted the Alveo IM 70.3 and Penong’s 5150 registrations where in-training shirts, Penong’s t-shirts, mugs, visors, caps and towels were also given out and three Rudy Project helmets were awarded to raffle winners.
SEI, meanwhile, has added more slots for the Alveo IM next year after the 1,200 berths were sold out in the first day of list-up in its inaugural staging this year.
2019 triathlon action kicks of on March 24 for the Alveo IM 70.3 Davao while the inaugural Sun Life 5150 race will be held in Cebu on April 25. Subic Bay will host the Century Tuna IM 70.3 on June 2 while the Penong’s 5150 Davao, another first, will he held on July 7.
