Letran got back at University of Perpetual Help with an 82-80 victory yesterday to take the No. 3 semifinal seeding in NCAA men’s basketball at The Arena in San Juan City.
It was the Knights’ sixth straight victory, avenging their 78-75 first-round loss to the Altas and hiking their win-loss tally to 13-4 with only one assignment left in the eliminations.
Graduating forward Bong Quinto delivered the goods for Letran with 22 points, nine rebounds, five assists and two steals while JP Calvo also lent a helping hand by contributing 17 points, five boards and seven assists.
“Like we said, we will get back at those teams who beat us (in the first round),” said Quinto in Filipino.
The Knights fell short in their attempt against the San Beda Red Lions when they lost for the second time, 74-68, last Sept. 11, but continued with their promise by stunning Lyceum last Friday, 80-79.
Larry Muyang also helped make the difference for Letran by finishing with 11 points and eight boards while Jeo Ambohot and Chris Fajarito combined for 16 points.
Perpetual, which is already in the semifinals, succumbed to its sixth loss against 11 victories for fourth.
Letran’s No. 3 seeding arranges them a Final Four meeting with the No. 2 squad which has yet to be determined.
San Beda currently holds the top spot with 15-1 while Lyceum trails behind with 15-2.
