A show of force in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games here is what the Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines (ABAP) is gunning for as the entire team members converge this weekend for a crucial meeting in Baguio City.
ABAP secretary general Ed Picson said boxers in the elite and down to pool members are going to be in attendance as they attempt to come up with a blueprint for next year’s campaign to take the overall crown.
“The focus for 2019 is the SEAG,” said Picson, who will preside over the two-day consultative meeting with the coaching staff headed by Ronald Chavez, Boy Velasco and Pat Gaspi.
While teams are going to be dispatched for the Tammer Cup in Finland late this month and the world women’s championships in India next month, the ABAP is already zeroing in on the buildup for the SEAG.
Chavez admits ruling the SEAG is foremost on their heart and mind.
“The target is to take the most number of gold medals,” said Chavez, himself an accomplished fighter during his heyday.
“This is the reason why we are starting to prepare early,” said the 1992 Barcelona Olympics veteran.
