TARLAC – Jay Bayron kept his hot irons and putting going, producing a six-under 66 and staying on track for the elusive Philippine Golf Tour crown halfway through the ICTSI Luisita Invitational here yesterday.
With Luisita’s dreaded wind a virtual non-factor for the second straight day, Bayron took the clubhouse lead with a 131 aggregate with half of the 91-player starting field, including opening round leader Clyde Mondilla, still to complete second round play in the R4 million event at presstime.
But Bayron, who bucked a late start Tuesday and shot a 65 to trail Mondilla by one, cashed in on the switch in tee-time and nines, stringing five straight birdies inside 10 feet from No. 11 to wrest control.
Like the rest of the contenders for the top R750,000 purse, Bayron, who added two birdies against a lone bogey at the front, hopes to sustain his form in the final 36 holes in a bid to join the elite circle of this year’s PGT winners.
