No slowing down for disabled Filipino athletes that bagged medals in the recent Asian Para Games in Jakarta as training continues in preparation for different events like next year’s Southeast Asian Para Games here.
Ernie Gawilan, who bagged three gold medals in swimming, said that training resumes in a few weeks as he is set to compete in the World Championship in July in Kuching, Malaysia.
“I’m planning to go back in Davao City, but I’ll continue with my training,” said the 27-year-old Gawilan in Filipino, who stands to receive R4 million for winning three gold and two silver medals on Nov. 6.
“Next for me is the World Championship in July, that’s the qualifier for the 2022 Tokyo Olympics and I hope to compete there, and of course the SEA Para Games,” Gawilan, who also won two silver medals in the Asian Para Games.
Sander Severino of chess will also join the millionaires club after winning two individual golds and the same number golds in team events worth R2.6 million.
Cyclist Arthur Bucay, who surprised many when he ruled the men’s Pursuit C5 event in the Asian Para Games as he edged local bet Sufyan Saori and Iran’s Mahdi Mohammadi.
