Ria Nabalan became the first player to drop 40 points in six years as National University scored a wire-to-wire 111-64 win over La Salle Saturday in the UAAP women’s basketball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The victory was the five-peat seeking Lady Bulldogs’ eighth in the elimination round – and the 72nd consecutive dating back from 2014.
Nabalan, who went 14-of-23 from the field, scored the most points by any player since Allana Lim had 45 points in Far Eastern University’s 85-43 victory over University of the East on Aug. 15, 2012.
Reigning MVP Jack Danielle Animam added 20 points, 17 rebounds, four blocks and two assists while Congo’s Rhena Itesi had 19 points, 16 boards and four blocks for NU.
Grace Irebu, the Congolese center who led the MVP race in the first round, produced 19 points and 12 rebounds as University of Santo Tomas turned back FEU, 75-68, to improve at 5-3.
