Bureau of Immigration (BI) operatives arrested in Muntinlupa City eight Chinese fugitives wanted by police in Beijing for economic crimes.
BI Commissioner Jaime Morente said the aliens were apprehended last Oct. 18 inside their office at the Northgate Information Technology Park in Filinvest Corporate City on Alabang-Zapote Road in Muntinlupa City.
Morente said operatives from the BI Fugitives search unit (FSU) were issued a mission order authorizing them to conduct the operation against the said foreign fugitives.
“These aliens are undesirable, and are already undocumented as their passports have already been cancelled by the Chinese government,” said Morente. He added that the eight will immediately be placed in the Bureau’s blacklist to prevent their return to the country.
Arrested were seven males and one female. They were identified as Li You, Chen Huapeng, Sun in, Lu Changren, Li Zigou, Li Lei, Fu Chen and Wu Sile.
The Chinese fugitives were caught in the act of manning their workstations, where they were using computers to conduct their cybercrime operations, which victimizes fellow Chinese in China.
“The Chinese Embassy in Manila sought our assistance in capturing these fugitives so they can be deported to China and face their crimes,” Raquepo said.
They are the latest catch in the bureau’s intensified campaign to flush out illegal aliens, not only fugitives but also those who are illegally working in the country.
