Kiteboarding ace Christian Tio, fresh from a silver medal winning performance in the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in Buenos Aires, won’t touch the R2.5 million cash award from the government.
Under RA 10699, a silver medal from the Youth Olympics, is worth P2.5 million and Tio, who is Filipino and Norwegian lineage, said yesterday that he will “keep everything in the bank.”
Tio was formally presented to the media yesterday with the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) rolling out the red carpet for the 17-year-old athlete from Boracay Island.
Tio was the lone medalist for the Philippines in the third edition of the YOG, which made its debut in Singapore in 2010 and followed by its second staging in Nanjing in 2014.
