It took Centro Escolar University a little longer to warm up this time but still got the job done.
The Scorpions used a huge third quarter attack to repeat over the Lyceum-Batangas Pirates, 102-63, and clinch a semis playoff in the Universities and Colleges Basketball League (UCBL) Season 3 yesterday at the Olivarez College in Parañaque City.
Protecting a 44-32 halftime lead, the Scorpions went on a tear early in third on the way to scoring the Pirates, 33-18, for a commanding 77-50 lead going into the final quarter.
The Scorpions never looked from there as they coasted to their seventh straight win in eight games, moving onto the threshold of advancing to the semis for the third straight time.
In his finest game so far, Maodo Diouf erupted for 29 points aside from posting 14 rebounds, seven assists, six blocks and five steals in just a little over 26 minutes of play.
He was ably supported by Rich Guinataran, who had 19 points, Orlan Wamar with 12 and Pierce Tyron Chan with 11 points.
With their vast experience and height advantage, CEU shot 55 percent from the field, making 35 of 63 tries against only 39 percent for Lyceum-Batangas (22-of-43).
