Diliman College assured itself of a semifinals playoff berth with a 120-67 conquest of St. Joseph College-Bulacan in the Universities and Colleges Basketball League (UCBL) Season 3 yesterday at the Olivarez College in Parañaque City.
The Blue Dragons got off to a hot start, racing to a 30-7 advantage and never looked back to log their seventh win in eight contests.
Earlier, Technological Institute of the Philippines gained the needed separation over Lyceum of the Philippines University-Batangas in the race for the last semifinals berth with a 71-54 victory.
Now tied with Centro Escolar University for the league’s best record, Diliman opened a one-and-half game lead over third-running Olivarez College (5-2) in the race for the second twice-to-beat slot in the Final Four.
But coach Rensy Bajar is simply focusing on the Blue Dragons improvement at this crucial stage of the season.
“Hindi ko muna iniisip yun. We have four games to go. We just take it one game at a time. Yun talaga ang focus namin,” said Bajar.
Six players scored twin digits for Diliman, with McArthur John Enriquez leading the way with 19 points. Benin’s Kevin Gandjeto had a double-double outing of 18 points and 14 rebounds to go with four steals, three blocks and two assists.
