Filipino Randy Petalcorin and Nicaraguan power-puncher Felix Alvarado dispute the vacant International Boxing Federation (IBF) light-flyweight crown Monday night at the Midas Hotel and Casino.
During Sunday’s official weighin, Petalcorin came in at the division limit of 108 lbs. Alvarado tipped in at 107.
Alvarado (33-2 with 29 KOs) is slightly favored but Petalcorin (29-2-1 with 22 KOs) has what it takes to ruin his plans of bringing the IBF 108-lb title back to Central America.
Ernest Sharif of the US will be the third man on the ring while the three judges are Silvestre Abainza of the Philippines, Michael Alexander of Doncaster, England, and Alejandro Lopez of Veracruz, Mexico.
Ben Keilty of Perth, Australia, will be the fight supervisor.
If Petalcorin scores an upset, he will join Jerwin Ancajas and Manny Pacquiao as the country’s reigning world champions. (Nick Giongco)
