Manila’s Mark Yu was named World Balance Player of the Week for the North Division and so was Solid San Juan-Big Chill’s Andrei Simoun Dada in the South of the Metro League Open basketball tournament which is being held under the auspices of the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA).
Only Manila’s fourth leading scorer in the tournament, Yu shone brightest this past week where the All-Stars recorded victories over Las Piñas and Valenzuela to stretch their win streak to a tournament-best five straight while solidifying its lead in the North Division with its 7-1 slate, one and a half games ahead of its nearest pursuers and a win away from a twice-to-beat advantage in the division semifinals.
Yu had 10 points, six assists, four rebounds and three steals in just 21:47 minutes of action in Manila’s 101-71 rout of the winless Home Defenders Tuesday last week then upped it up a notch in their surprise easy 112-98 win over the Workhorses two days later where he had a conference-high 31 points which he added three steals, two rebounds and an assist while shooting a sizzling 14 of 18 from the field.
