Rain or Shine was playing its final game in the PBA Governors Cup at presstime.
Fittingly, it could also be the last game for its veteran guard Chris Tiu.
Born with a silver spoon in his mouth, Tiu has texted owners Raymund Yu and Terry Que to be at the family-owned Discovery Suites in Pasig City for a dinner after the team’s game with NLEX.
“He texted me and other members of the team, including Raymund to be present, but I don’t what it is about,” said Que.
It’s an open secret that Tiu, 33, has only extended his contract with team till the end of the season upon the request of the owners.
If indeed Tiu will announce his retirement, then well and good since he’s still at the top of his game – reason why he was picked for the PH team in the recent Asian Games.
Unlike other league players, Tiu can afford to live comfortably due to family’s vast businesses, and most likely, he will be groomed to handle the business affairs of the family.
It could also be a perfect goodbye for Tiu since ROS will be up against former coach in Yeng Guiao.
It could be remembered that Guiao jested during the 2012 rookie draft that he took Tiu to have another “pogi” in the team.
The former Ateneo star played all of six PBA seasons with Rain or Shine, winning a championship in the 2016 Commissioner’s Cup.
But this season has seen Tiu playing beyond his usual form and was the team’s top local during the team’s semifinal run in the Commissioner’s Cup. (Jonas Terrado)
