Creamline scored a quick win while Pocari Sweat-Air Force needed a deciding set to outlast its foe on Wednesday in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference at The Arena in San Juan City.
The Cool Smashers overpowered the Tacloban Fighting Warays, 25-16, 25-16, 26-24, while the Lady Warriors rose from a two-set deficit to turn back the PetroGazz Angels, 17-25, 27-29, 25-16, 25-23, 15-13.
It was Creamline’s seventh triumph in nine matches to share the second spot with BanKo-Perlas while Pocari-Air Force evened its record at 5-5.
Alyssa Valdez played with pain in the second set after twisting her ankle but still finished with 17 points built on 10 kills, five aces and two blocks for the Cool Smashers even as Michele Gumabao, Pau Soriano and Risa Sato combined for 25 points.
After taking a rest late in the second frame, Valdez returned in the third where she rallied her team from a 15-10 deficit en route to the win.
Myla Pablo, meanwhile, led the Lady Warriors with 22 points highlighted by 20 spikes while Iari Yongco fired 11 hits, three blocks and three aces to finish with 17 points.
Tacloban dropped to its seventh loss against four victories while PetroGazz slid to 5-4.
