Jomary “The Zamboanginian Fighter” Torres looks to end her 2018 on a high note as she is scheduled to go toe-to-toe against two-time ONE Women’s Atomweight World Title contender Mei “V.V” Yamaguchi of Japan on 7 December.
Both outstanding ladies are set to face each other on the undercard of ONE: DESTINY OF CHAMPIONS, which takes place at the state-of-the-art Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The stacked card is composed of 11 bouts, which will be headlined by one of Thailand’s most accomplished Muay Thai athletes, Yodsanklai IWE Fairtex, as he seeks for his 200th career win when he faces Luis Regis of Australia in a ONE Super Series Muay Thai Featherweight bout.
Starting the year with a stunning knockout win over compatriot April Osenio back in January, the 22-year-old Filipina breakout tasted her first defeat as a professional mixed martial artist this past September, yielding to Indonesian prospect Priscilla Hertati Lumban Gaol.
With another opportunity to display her skills and conclude her 2018 in high spirits, Torres is driven to place herself back on the winning track as she shares the cage with one of the top guns of the 52.2-kilogram weight class.
The women standing in her path to re-enter the winner’s column is Yamaguchi, a pioneer of the Japanese mixed martial arts scene who holds an experienced record of 17-11-1 with nine finishes by either knockout or submission.
The 35-year-old native of Tokyo, Japan fell short in her second bid to become the ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion when she dropped a unanimous decision to Singaporean star Angela Lee last May.
Like Torres, Yamaguchi is also hoping to get back to her winning ways to keep her status as one of the leading contenders in the promotion’s female atomweight bracket.
Also booked for ONE: DESTINY OF CHAMPIONS is former ONE Welterweight World Title challenger Agilan “Alligator” Thani, who is slated to take on Kiamrian Abbasov of Kyrgyzstan.
Aside from Thani, three more Malaysian stars are scheduled to compete in front of the packed and raucous crowd at the Axiata Arena.
Gianni Subba battles Chinese grappling wizard Ma Hao Bin in a three-round flyweight encounter, while Jihin “Shadowcat” Radzuan tests her mettle against ex-ONE Women’s Atomweight World Championship contender Jenny “Lady GoGo” Huang of Chinese Taipei.
Malaysia will have its first representative on the ONE Super Series stage as Mohammed “Jordan Boy” Mahmoud locks horns with Stergos “Greek Dynamite” Mikkios.
