CEBU CITY—A 52-year-old paralyzed man was killed after he was trapped in his burning house in Barangay Lorega here.
The fatality was identified as Amado Maglinte, who was alone in their house when the fire broke out at 2:58 p.m. last Wednesday.
The fire destroyed at least 60 houses and rendered 52 families homeless, said Nagiel Bañacia, chief of the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CCDRRMC).
The city’s Department of Social Welfare and Services will conduct validation to finalize the report on affected families and will also conduct assessment for “Build Back Better” Rehabilitation Program, Banacia said.
Fire damage was pegged at P600,000.
The cause of fire is still under investigation, said Cebu City Fire Marshall Noel Ababon.
The fire started in a house owned by one Gaudencia Recolcol, said Ababon.
Ababon said it was fortunate that the fire happened near a highway that enabled firefighters to contain the flames in just about 30 minutes.
The fire broke out near an area that was also struck by fire last year wherein 47 houses were destroyed.
