12 noon – CEU vs Olivarez
2 p.m. – LPU-B vs Diliman
More than two months since its shock defeat, Centro Escolar University gets the chance to redeem itself when it faces Olivarez College today in the Universities and Colleges Basketball League (UCBL) Season 3 at the Olivarez College gym in Parañaque City.
Match is at 12 noon with the CEU Scorpions determined to avenge their 86-83 defeat to the Sea Lions on Sept. 6 in a game they controlled most of the game until the host school made a decisive run late in the game to snatch the win.
The Scorpions, however, quickly recovered from that defeat as they won their next 9 games to put themselves in a position to claim one of two twice-to-beat advantages in the semis.
Also going for its 10th win in 11 games is Diliman Colleges which is going to take on Lyceum of Batangas at 2 p.m.
Today’s matches are both vital for CEU, Diliman and Olivarez as they have chances of earning bonuses in the next round of the event backed CaféFrance, Yakult, Gerry’s Grill, Hapee Toothpaste, MaxSell Power Tool and Tough Mama Home and Kitchen Appliances, Tanduay Athletics and Toyota Motor Philippines.
With an 8-2 mark, the Sea Lions can clinch the other bonus if they win their two remaining matches, including today’s match with the Scorpions.
The other semifinalist is Technological Institute of the Philippines with a 6-4 mark.
Out to lead the Scorpions are the deadly troika of John Rojas, Rich Guinitaran and Orlan Wamar who combined for 55 points in the team’s 95-76 win over the also-ran Philippine Christian University-Dasmariñas.
