The Mapua Red Robins captured a record-tying 22nd NCAA juniors title by dethroning the La Salle Greenhills Greenies, 77-74, in the rubber match of their title series yesterday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Paolo Hernandez shone brightest for the Red Robins, burying seven triples to finish with 33 points as Mapua tied San Beda for the most number of titles. He also hauled down 12 rebounds for Mapua while Dan Arches chipped in 22 points.
La Salle had the chance to extend the game into overtime but the referee nullified a buzzer-beating trey of Joshua David upon video review.
Inand Fornillos and David finished with 18 and 13 points while Season MVP Joel Cagulangan added 10 points in failed attempts for LSGH.
