THERE is time for studies; there is time for leisurely activities – a reminder this National Children’s Month. The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (Article 31) clearly states, “The child has a right to leisure, play, and participation in cultural and artistic activities”.
If you want children to live balanced lives, give them enough and regular playtime. Playing makes children feel relaxed and happy. Physical and group games will help them develop physically, emotionally, and socially.
It is when children play with others kids that they learn how to make friends, how to work as a team, how to become patient, how to contribute something worthwhile, and how to accept defeat!
The joys and frustrations brought by children’s experiences when they play with others contribute to their maturity and emotional stability. These things will impact their attitudes and the way they relate to other people even when become adults.
Imagine the things that children miss when they only play using gadgets!
As long as the time, the kind of game, place, and other conditions are appropriate and safe, support and accompany your children. Let them play outside for a healthy, happy, and balanced life!
