PetroGazz caught the last semifinal bus in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference over the weekend with a 25-21, 25-9, 25-15 crushing of a hapless Adamson-Akari at The Arena in San Juan City.
It was the Angels’ eighth victory in 13 matches to advance into the next phase and join with BanKo-Perlas (10-3), Ateneo-Motolite (10-4) and Creamline (9-3).
The feat already eclipsed PetroGazz debut appearance in the Reinforced Conference a few months ago where they finished fifth overall.
Despite the recent accomplishment, PetroGazz coach Jerry Yee there are still more work to be done in their bid for the crown. The Angels will be facied the fancied Creamline Cool Smashers tomorrow in their last eliminations match.
“We still need to work harder those three semifinal teams are really strong title contenders. We’ll still double our efforts against Creamline,” said Yee, adding that they wanted to enter the semis on a bright note with a big win.
At the moment, the Angels are at fourth to trail slightly behind the Cool Smashers. The semis phase, which starts next week, will follow a crossover format with the No. 1 team battling the fourth-seeded squad, and the No. 2 team facing the No. 3 squad.
Both semis affairs will also be played in a best-of-three format.
Yee expects Jessey De Leon and Cherry Nunag to banner the squad after combining for 27 points against the Lady Falcons.
