National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) agents arrested by a man for trying to extort P1 million from a doctor who hosts a radio show.
NBI deputy spokesperson Auralyn Pascual identified the suspect as Eduardo David. He has been charged with robbery/extortion.
Pascual was arrested by agents of the NBI’s Anti-Organized and Transnational Crime Division (AOTCD) during an entrapment operation in Quezon City last Nov. 16.
The operation stemmed from the complaint of Radio Veritas talk show host Dr. Maria Irene Bonza who operates a clinic in Makati City.
According to NBI AOTCD chief Joel Tovera, Bonza first met the suspect when he came to her a clinic on a wheel chair seeking consultation due to his difficulty in walking.
The complainant then instructed David to undergo several laboratory tests and chest x-ray.
David returned with the test results and was diagnosed having a pneumonia.
Because of this, Bonza prescribed to the suspect an injectable antibiotic and amino acids for two weeks.
David returned for a follow up checkup, but he was no longer on a wheelchair and told the doctor he no longer has pneumonia.
However, the suspect visited her clinic again on Oct. 8 and told her his life was placed in danger because of her medication.
David threatened to ruin her reputation before her patients and her radio program unless he gets paid P1 million.
Because of this, the complainant sought the help of the NBI that led to the arrest of the suspect. (Jeffrey Damicog)
