To avoid chaos in the house, the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) decided not to tackle the ‘troubled’ tennis association during yesterday’s General Assembly at the Meralco Multi-Purpose Hall in Mandaluyong City.
The 43 national sports association members were supposed to vote on whether to suspend or not the Philippine Tennis Association on the recommendation of POC Membership Committee head Robert Bachmann.
But the move did not prosper, thus giving Philta president Antonio Cablitas more time to prepare his players for next year’s SEA Games.
Cablitas is not recognized by both the POC and the International Tennis Federation (ITF).
The POC Membership Committee had earlier recommended the suspension of Philta for not following the directive of the ITF to increase its membership and improve representation of stakeholders.
Cablitas, who is the Presidential Adviser on Foreign Investments, is hoping that peace will finally reign in the sport that is slowly losing its appeal to the masses.
