Police have arrested more than 32,000 people for being “topless” while walking or hanging out in the streets of Metro Manila since the anti-loitering operations were launched in almost six months ago.
And despite the repeated warnings and relentless operations, operatives of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) continue to arrest more violators of the ordinance against hanging out “half-naked”.
In just a span of 24 hours for instance, a total of 178 people were arrested in various areas in Metro Manila, according to NCRPO chief Director Guillermo Eleazar, comparing the data from November 24 and November 25.
At around 6 a.m. on November 24, the NCRPO reported that there were 32,179 people arrested. The number climbed to 32,357 Sunday.
The number of topless arrested represents six percent of the total number of violators of various ordinances in Metro Manila. The figure is 525,957 since June 13 this year. (Aaron Recuenco)
