President Duterte is planning to fire another undersecretary for alleged involvement in corruption.
The President declared that he does not tolerate corruption in government amid the imminent dismissal of another erring official as soon as he returns to Manila.
“Corruption is not acceptable to me. I need not repeat it everyday. When I go to Manila, I’m going back, I’m going to fire another undersecretary for corruption,” Duterte said during the groundbreaking ceremony of a Davao City bulk water project Monday.
“There is corruption in government because the people are not really assertive about it. You are just willing and dying for it,” said Duterte, who often stays in his hometown Davao City during weekends.
As he seeks to weed out corrupt public servants, the President appealed anew to the public to report corruption and other irregularities in government. He said his office was ready to accept any complaints everyday so appropriate government action could be taken.
“Sinabi ko sa inyo ayaw ko ng corruption [I told you I don’t like corruption]. If there is corruption, you have access to my office in Pasig, Mendiola 24 hours,” he said.
Last week, the President sacked Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council secretary general Falconi Millar for alleged corruption.
The Palace announced Monday that termination of Millar’s services came after a Palace investigation found him liable for alleged involvement in irregularity.
Presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo said a company has filed a complaint against Millar for allegedly asking for money in exchange for the release of payment the HUDCC owned to the firm. He said the complaint was validated following an investigation ordered by the President. (Genalyn Kabiling)
